kit bashing is way quicker than 3d printing, also cheaper

Mind blown. I think sams right too. Detailed models(at least for our 3d printer here) takes days for just a little 1inch piece. I can't imagine something like the deathstar being built anytime soon. Although we do have a older printer.

Also only sls can produce that level of detail and it would take at least a week to make a rough cad model. Check out adam savage' videos on tested, where he talks about working at ilm.
